Stratford-upon-Avon is set amid the beautiful rural countryside of Warwickshire, and is bordered to the south by the Cotswolds and to the west by Worcester and the Malvern hills. There are plenty of options for enjoying and making the most of this splendid scenery and, as the name suggests, the river Avon is on hand to allow a number of watery pastimes. Stratford is, of course, most famous as the birthplace of Shakespeare. His name and image are well utilised in promoting this town and if you want to see a Shakespeare play, where better? But Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding area has much more to offer than a 16th Century playwright.

When you look through brochures for Stratford, the centre is often described as "a taste of ye olde England" and that's the beauty of Stratford. The new blends seamlessly with the old; wandering round the well-preserved streets you get glimpses into the past whilst buying new clothes from designer boutiques. Stratford has a first class selection of clothes shops, cafes and restaurants and it's worth looking out for the speciality cheese shops (no kidding! There's always some nice "taste and try before you buy" and you'll get a good laugh at the one member of your party who's struggling to carry home a whole round of Stilton).
Of course if you would like to visit the theatre, there are always a few very good performances being shown. You may be lucky enough to see Dame Judy Dench, and though even if you don't, you are certain to have a memorable evening. A night at the theatre would normally be combined with either an early dinner or late supper (maybe both if you've just watched an unabridged version of Hamlet!).
Away from the town centre Stratford has some excellent leisure facilities. Of particular note and included in some of our packages is a luxury 5* spa offering a wide range of beauty and holistic treatments. Or for the more adventurous canoeing and kayaking are on offer and these normally provide ample opportunity for a spot of bonding and a lot of laughing at each others expense.
12 miles to the south of Stratford is the market town of Chipping Campden. This is a delightful alternative to Stratford for shopping and dining out. Whether you fancy afternoon tea, a pub lunch or a gourmet treat in a brasserie, there are a wealth of eating options. Eight miles to the north of Stratford is the town of Warwick, again a decent alternative for eating out, but also a pleasant place to wander round for a few hours (be warned, they have a similar attachment to their castle as Stratford does to Shakespeare, it is difficult to ignore).
We hope that after reading the above, you agree with us, that Stratford and the surrounding area has much more to offer than simply Shakespeare.
